A special election will be held to fill a vacant state house seat to determine who controls the house of representatives. Former Rep. Sara Innamorato who resigned in July, vacated a seat that left the house tied at 101 on each side of the aisle. Now Democrat Lindsay Powell and Republican Erin Connolly will battle for the vacant seat. Republicans are holding out little to no hope of a victory, because the district where the seat is located is heavily Democratic. The winner will finish the term of Innamorato into the 2024 election, and will give the winning party a 1 vote majority in Harrisburg. Innamorato resigned to run for Allegheny County executive in November.
