Hello Everyone,
Here is the recap of the July 23 edition of “The Homegrown Rocker,” which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on Q94 Classic Rock (www.q94classicrock.com), and from 10 PM to midnight on 107.1 and 101.3 Jack FM (www.1071jack.fm)!
This week we returned to the show’s mailboxes to get caught up on more new local and regional music recordings that have arrived in recent days and weeks! We debuted lots of new music, including new tunes from Jon Osman, Matt Smolko, Lizdelise, Randolph Jack, Ronnie Henry, Anchor & Arrow, Above The Radar, OK Otter and Thunder Vest! We also updated “Local Music News,” pulled a 1992 number from Mount Union’s Bashful from the archive for a “Local Music Flashback,” stepped “Across State Lines” to hear from former area singer Olivia Lee and her Cleveland, Ohio-based indie-rock band Libcor, and we reviewed The Jaded Lips’ debut album Lip Service in “The Professor’s CD Corner!” (For those who missed the program, a four-part podcast of this show is available for listening or download from Q94’s website, www.q94classicrock.com. Click on “The Professor’s Classroom,” and then scroll down to “Homegrown Rocker Podcast” and look for the four show segments marked with the date, 072323.)

In Local Music News…
The annual Blair County African American Heritage Festival will take place next Saturday and Sunday (July 29 and 30) at downtown Altoona’s Heritage Plaza, and will feature multiple vendors, informational displays, food and refreshments, plus live music and other entertainment. The entertainment lineup for Saturday will include Eric Ian Farmer, Urban Fusion, the Ibeji Drum Ensemble and The PennSoulvanians, as well as an appearance by Nathan Richardson portraying American statesman and abolitionist Frederick Douglass. Sunday’s schedule will include a Local Showcase, a Gospel Music Block and Innocent Sin, plus a performance by Black Magic Burlesque & Circus Productions. The festival will run from noon to 8 p.m. both days, and admission is free.
State College’s Ted McCloskey is releasing a new album. The album, entitled Behind the White Noise, addresses issues of mental health and emotional trauma through song vignettes of characters and the issues they deal with. The album will officially be released across streaming and digital platforms on August 4, but downloads copies of the album can currently be obtained through Ted’s Bandcamp page, and CD copies were available during Ted McCloskey & the Hi-Fi’s performance at last weekend’s Central Pennsylvania Festival of the Arts in State College.
A Cambria County bar, eatery and live music venue is shutting its doors. The operators of Heroes Tavern in Nanty Glo announced this past week that they are closing the business, and they thanked the bands and entertainers who have performed there, their employees, and the area community for its support of the business while they were open.
And the Johnstown area music scene mourned the passing of musician Jim Fetcko, who passed on July 11 after a sudden illness. Born in Johnstown, Jim spent the past 28 years living in North Ridgeville, Ohio (near Cleveland). An accomplished musician, Jim was a founding member of Maiden America, and also was a member of the bands: Saturn, Destiny, Syndicate, OMCB and Capture.
