
The Altoona Mirror reported that someone claiming to be Blair County Sheriff James Ott is calling people, claiming he is investigating credit card fraud and misuse, using Sheriff Ott’s name, and claiming to be representing the office of homeland security. The caller tries to get you to purchase money cards from local businesses, the bring them to the courthouse, all the while staying on the phone talking to the scammer. Sheriff Ott reminds all of us that he nor anyone in his office will call to ask for any monetary donations or to purchase any kind of cards. And it is the standard suggestion not to give out personal information such as bank accounts, social sceurity or credit card numbers to anyone who calls and asks for them.
