A report by WJAC indicates that D.A. Greg Neugebauer says that an alarming number of people are getting their hands on a drug called Xylazine, a drug used for primarily horses. Neugebauer says people are mixing this drug with other illegal narcotics and are becoming candidates for death. A doctor at Conemaugh Medical Center says that mixing Xylazine with other dangerous narcotics or opioids can lead to low heart rate, low blood pressure, difficulty breathing and could cause death. State Rep. Carl Metzgar has introduced legislation in Harrisburg to have veterinarians hand out the drug with a prescription, and possession of Xylazine without that prescription could lead to prison time.
