A bill has passed the state Senate that supporters say closes an archaic loophole about minors’ consent for medical procedures.  The House-passed bill requires medical groups to get informed consent from patients for pelvic, rectal or prostrate exams. The Senate Health and Human Services Committee voted unanimously in favor of House Bill 507 as sponsored by Representative  Elizabeth Fiedler. In a memo, Fiedler says the bill also would protect patients’ rights in cases where exams are performed without consent on a patient who is under anesthesia for an unrelated procedure.
