Two Pa., universities face an investigation into discrimination. The University of Pennsylvania along with Lafayette University are among seven schools nationwide, facing U.S. inquiries over alleged anti-Semitism and Islamophobia. The federal government has opened civil rights investigations since the outbreak of the Israel-Hamas War. The Education Department recently announced the inquiries calling it part of the Biden Administration’s effort to take “aggressive action” against discrimination. Schools found to have violated civil rights law can face penalties up to a total loss in federal funding. Penn officials have said they’re cooperating with the investigation. Lafayette, which is located in Easton, said it was unclear to them why their school was being investigated.
