A 68 year old West Virginia man has been accused of abandoning a dog at the Pittsburgh International Airport, the second such incident in nearly 3 months. Charged with abandonment of animals, and animal neglect was David Mittelberger Sr., of Windsor Heights, West Virginia. Authorities with the Allegheny County Police say investigators believe Mittelberger was planning to fly to California when he tied the Chihuahua mix named Mikey to a pole in the airport’s short-term parking garage. Attempts to reach Mittelberger have so far been unsuccessful. The dog remains in the care of an animal shelter. Nearly 3 months ago an Armstrong County woman was ordered to stand trial on charges she too abandoned her dog at the airport.
