Because Pennsylvania police are in need of more recruits, the state House has approved legislation that would lower the physical fitness requirements to enroll in police academies. House Bill 863 would allow would-be candidates to enroll, and give them the opportunity to get into physical shape at the academy. They’d still have to meet the physical requirements to graduate. The state Attorney General’s Office says Pennsylvania has around 13-hundred positions that are open across the state.
