That’s not new, but the way thieves are stealing your money is. Police say that thieves are going into stores, copying as much information from the backs of gift cards, including pin numbers, then wait for shoppers to purchase the card, activate them, then use the information to steal your cash that you loaded onto the card. It is known as card draining. When purchasing a gift card, look for any sign of tampering, is it already opened, damaged or has the number on the back already scratched off, do ot purchase the card.
