A new state task force has been directed to increase residents’ access to affordable flood insurance. Governor Josh Shapiro’s office says climate change is speeding up the need for more people to get insured against flooding, and standard homeowner’s or renter policies usually don’t cover such damages. Insurance Department Commissioner Michael Humphreys says the task force will open a public comment period later this month with the goal of having the report ready by next summer. The governor says his administration will get started on its recommendations immediately after that.
