State Treasurer Says Proposed Program Would Encourage Retirement Saving

A new survey is shedding some light on why Pennsylvania business owners do or don’t offer programs to help workers save for retirement. The Pew Charitable Trusts surveyed 500 Pennsylvania small-business owners and found that over 65 percent of businesses that don’t offer a retirement plan say one big reason is the complexity of managing a plan. PA State Treasurer Stacy Garrett says plans like Keystone Saves are an ideal solution that make it easy for employees to save without any new burdens on employers. The state House passed House Bill 577 back in May, which would establish the Keystone Saves program, and it’s expected to be voted on soon in the state Senate
