Pa., residents should soon see some relief at the pumps. Starting on January 1st the state’s gas tax is going down from 61.1 cents per gallon to 57.6 cents, and that’s according to the Department of Revenue. Diesel tax rates will also drop. The tax is based on the average wholesale price of gasoline, which has dropped in recent years because Pennsylvania drivers are pumping less gas into their vehicles. These declining wholesale prices have allowed the state to knock a few cents off a gallon of gas for 2024. Money generated from the gas tax, funds state and local road and bridge projects.
