Legislation passed in the state House recently would possibly regulate reporting on cryptocurrency in Pennsylvania. House Bill 1476 would make cryptocurrency operators submit reports on the location and size of their operations, as well as the amount of electric energy used by their computers to solve equations. The bill’s sponsor says cryptocurrency mining uses a substantial amount of energy and if left unchecked, will prevent the state from meeting goals to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
