The State College Borough Council has passed a resolution calling for a cease-fire in the Israel-Hamas war. During a meeting on Wednesday the council heard from dozens of people both in support of and in opposition to the resolution. The resolution states the State College community “shares a common humanity” and asks the borough’s congressional representatives to join the council in urging the Biden Administration to call for a de-escalation and ceasefire, condemning the October 7th attack on Israel by Hamas, and that all parties should join to end the current violence in Gaza. The resolution also affirms its commitment to fighting anti-Semitism, Islamophobia, racism, xenophobia, homophobia and ethnic discrimination. State College is the first community in Pennsylvania to pass a resolution calling for the cease-fire.
