Pennsylvania’s 7th District Congresswoman says U.S. Steel’s pending sale with Nippon, is “heartbreaking.” The Japanese company announced last week that it will acquire the Pennsylvania-based company in a 14-billion-dollar deal. Speaking at an electrical workers’ union event late last week in Allentown, U.S. Rep. Susan Wild said she thinks the ripple effect of the sale “is going to be huge” and called it “troubling.” Several of Pennsylvania’s federal lawmakers have asked the U.S. Treasury Secretary to block the deal as part of national economic interest and as a possible security risk for foreign investment.
