Two state gun clubs in Clearfield County, the Punxsutawney Hunting Club and the Pitch Pine Hunting Club, are appealing a ruling by the Commonwealth Court of Pennsylvania over how much power the government can claim over private land. An attorney for the two hunting clubs sued the state game commission because they say game wardens entered club lands without permission or a warrant. The Commonwealth Court had said the wardens were operating under the Open Fields Doctrine, which allows government officials all access to private land. The hunting clubs are being represented in their appeal by the Institute for Justice. Their attorneys believe the argument could be heard before the Pennsylvania Supreme Court in 2024, with a decision likely in 2025.
