A 67 year old Altoona man has been charged after he allegedly engaged in an armed standoff with police, on Saturday afternoon. Authorities say John Laird has been charged with several misdemeanor accounts of terroristic threats with intent to terrorize another. State Police say Laird allegedly prevented a woman who was in his home from leaving, and barricaded himself inside with her, while threatening to harm anyone who attempted to enter the home. Laird surrendered to police and is currently in the Blair County Prison on $150,000 bail. The incident caused police to close over two miles of East Pleasant Valley Blvd., near Pinecroft and Bellwood.
