SNAP Costs Have Increased 76% in Five Years

The number of people getting food stamps in Pennsylvania has passed two million. The state Independent Fiscal Office is now also referring to that same data that shows it’s costing the state a lot more to support SNAP benefits. The cost was 366-million in 2022 — an increase of 76 percent increase from 2019. The IFO notes part of the increased cost is also due to benefits increasing, as well as different requirements for qualifying.
