In a story we shared with you yesterday regarding the removal of the William Penn Statue at a National Park in Philadelphia that honors him, there’s apparently been a change of heart. The Biden Administration’s National Park Service, had said the statue was to be removed, and replaced with memorials of Native Americans to make the experience of visiting the park more inclusive. Federal officials are now saying a preliminary draft suggesting the removal of Pennsylvania’s founder was prematurely released. Because of this, the proposal is being retracted and no changes to the William Penn Statue are planned. The park, located in Philadelphia, is called The Independence National Historical Park and honors Penn, who as a Quaker was a strong advocate for treating American Natives with dignity and respect.
