A number of individuals in Centre County have reportedly received phone calls from someone posing as the Centre County Sheriff’s Office in an attempt to scam them out of money. Reportedly the scammers are attempting to get individuals to purchase prepaid VISA cards and provide personal information over the phone by telling the victims that there is, or will be a warrant for their arrest. The Centre County Sheriff’s Office says the scammers are providing fake docket numbers to the victims. If you receive such a call, authorities urge you to refrain from giving out any personal information, hang up immediately, and contact local law enforcement.
