Pennsylvania’s environmental agency is hoping to eventually snag up to half a billion dollars in federal funding for cutting carbon emissions. The Department of Environmental Protection is taking the first steps to start a program to cut carbon emissions from cement kilns, steel manufacturers and other industrial operations. The proposed program would be called Reducing Industrial Sector Emissions in Pennsylvania, or RISE PA. The state’s industrial sector is the largest greenhouse gas source in Pennsylvania. State officials say taking part in RISE PA would help Pennsylvania be eligible to apply for up to 500-million-dollars more in federal funding.
