A 43 year old Altoona man is behind bars today after he was charged for a 2023 vehicle crash that resulted in the death of his passenger. William Tremmel was arraigned recently on several felony counts including aggravated assault of vehicle while DUI. Last March, Tremmel crashed his vehicle into a concrete barrier on Broad Avenue, Altoona. A passenger in his vehicle was found unresponsive when police arrived and was ultimately taken to UPMC in Pittsburgh where he died two days later due to blunt force trauma caused by the accident. Authorities say Tremmel, who was driving, allegedly smelled of alcohol, had glassy eyes and slurred speech when they came upon the accident scene. Unable to post $250,000 bail, Tremmel was sent to the Blair County Prison. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for February 2nd.
