School officials are keeping an eye on students to see if anyone else develops whooping cough. A high school student, in Easton, Pa.,  was diagnosed late last week with the highly contagious upper respiratory disease. The student is now being treated for their symptoms. Whooping cough, or pertussis, spreads easily from person to person and outbreaks can occur in schools, child care centers and hospitals, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.  Dr. Jennifer Janco, chair of pediatrics at St. Luke’s, says parents should protect their kids from contracting whooping cough by getting family members vaccinated with the T-dap vaccine.
