The legalization of marijuana for recreational purposes could get a closer look at the state level. Governor Josh Shapiro has called on lawmakers to enact legislation to that effect. With Democrats in charge of the State House, and some in the Republican-led Senate showing interest, Shapiro has pushed the economic side. Cannabis dispensaries reported nearly five billion dollars in total sales last year, and the governor envisions 250 million dollars in annual tax revenue within the first five years. Shapiro added legalization should come with the expungement of convictions for nonviolent drug offenders.
