With multiple new music recordings from the local and regional music scene, we again visited the show’s mailboxes to check out that new music on this week’s program! We debuted new songs from Wax Mekanix, Scorched Earth Syndrome, The Badlees, Chalk Dinosaur, The Platelets, The Jaded Lips, Philly Grooves, Medusa’s Disco, Treaties and Assault On 5th. In Local Music News…
Next weekend features several music-geared festival events…The 4th annual Homegrown Music & Community Festival takes place next Saturday (Sept. 9) at its new location, 1st Summit Arena at the Cambria County War Memorial in Johnstown. The music will start at 4 p.m., and will feature music from four bands: The Panels, Even The Odds, The Stars Upon the Western Hills and Shades Of June. Food and beverage vendors will be available, as well as community organization and business vendors. Tickets are $10 per person, with children 12 and under admitted for free. Proceeds will benefit three Johnstown area charities through the Community Foundation: The Stork Fund, The Luke Patton Memorial Fund and the Jessie Tree Fund.
The annual Northern Appalachian Folk Festival will happen next weekend in downtown Indiana. The festival gets under way on Thursday night, with the 2nd Songwriter’s Round hosted by Pittsburgh’s Joe Grushecky at the Indiana Theater. General admission tickets for that event are $20 per person. On Friday night and Saturday, the music happens on Main Street between 5th and 6th Streets in downtown Indiana. Friday’s entertainment includes performances from Corrie Lynn Green starting at 4 p.m., followed by Raquel and the Wildflowers, The Six (featuring members of The Clarks and Jim Donovan & the Sun King warriors) and The River Drivers. Saturday’s music schedule kicks off at noon with a fiddle, banjo and mandolin contest, followed by performances from the Gashouse Annie Duo, The Jaded Lips, the Derek Woods Band, Jim Donovan & the Sun King Warriors and July Moon. Admission both Friday and Saturday is free. The festival also features storytelling contests, art workshops, children’s activities, food and beverage vendors, art and community tents and more.
And the annual Cambria County Arts & Heritage Festival takes place next Saturday and Sunday at Duman Lake Park near Northern Cambria. The festival begins at 10 a.m. both days and features live music both days. Saturday’s schedule includes performances by The Pines and the Boomers, and Sunday’s music will include Full Kilt and That Oldees Band. Also taking place will be dance performances, Civil War re-enactors, arts and crafts vendors, nonprofit organization tables, children’s activities and more. Admission to this festival is free.
