One Million Dollar Bail Set For Pair Charged With Hoarding Animals

A Bedford County couple accused of hoarding nearly 100 animals in cages stacked on top of one another, are behind bars and bail has been set at $1 million each. The Bedford County DA’s Office has identified them as 81 year old Nyal Piper and 62 year old Renee Piper. Both have been charged with torture and neglect of 99 animals, which included 90 dogs, 8 cats and one turtle.  The animals were found in their Bedford Township home on New Year’s Eve. The Pipers face 486 charges each, including 99 felony counts of aggravated cruelty to animals. The Pipers were arraigned on Friday and sent to the Bedford County Prison. Their preliminary hearings are slated for March 13th.
