Enforcement of the statewide Work Zone Speed Safety Camera Program ramped up yesterday, and that’s according to a press release from both PennDOT and the Turnpike Commission. The program is in partnership with state police, and uses a vehicle-mounted system to both detect and record motorists exceeding the speed limit in work zones. Registered vehicle owners will receive a warning letter for the first offense, a violation notice with a $75 dollar fine for the second and a violation notice with a $150 fine for the third and all subsequent offenses. No points will be assessed to driver’s licenses. In 2022 there were nearly 13 hundred work zone crashes in the state, resulting in 14 fatalities.
