A recent Lending Tree study of the Federal Trade Commission’s Consumer Sentinel Network data shows that Pennsylvanian’s have lost $158M to fraud in 2023. This comes after a staggering $130M total financial fraud loss amongst PA residents in 2022. Data from LendingTree’s analysis show that Pennsylvania residents reported over 100,000 fraud reports in 2023, with each resident losing about $1,250. This is compared to a nationwide 1.8 million reports of fraud, totaling a loss of $7 billion dollars. The study cites ‘contact methods’ like phone calls, texts, emails, and social media as the most reported forms of scamming.
