Two Pennsylvania State Police Officers are under fire for allegedly using excessive force during a DUI arrest in Centre County. In an email, State Police have confirmed to WTAJ News, that they are currently conducting an internal investigation into last December’s arrest of 46 year old Dereck Raimey of Memphis, Tennessee. On December 6th Troopers Joshua Yaworski and Shane Eichelberger, both from Troop G, were on patrol in Boggs Township, Centre County, when they attempted to pull over Raimey for allegedly following a tractor trailer too closely. Reports state when officers attempted to pull Raimey over, he sped up to speeds of 100 MPH, leading police on a high speed chase on I-80. In a pre-trial motion filed with the Centre County Court last month, the Centre County Public Defender’s Office alleged the dash cam on the police car does not show Raimey driving in such a way that would call for a traffic stop. The motion further alleges that Trooper Yaworski forcefully punched Raimey numerous times about the face and head. Raimey was charged with fleeing and eluding police, reckless driving, as well as possession of drug paraphernalia and DUI. Raimey has since made bail and reportedly is back home in Memphis. In the meantime, the case is scheduled for court on March 18th for a criminal-pre-trial conference.
