Officers with both the Altoona and Logan Township Police Departments were called to a scene in Altoona, involving a gun incident that happened yesterday morning. The incident occurred in a room at the Fairfield Inn and Suites Marriott along Pleasant Valley Boulevard. The call reportedly came in from the James E. VanZandt VA Medical Center which is located next door. Once there, officers determined that a veteran, suffering from mental health issues and fearing for his own safety, was able to be removed from his room, and transported to UPMC Altoona for treatment. Fortunately no one was injured. No criminal charges are expected to be filed.
