House GOP members want Governor Shapiro to gather cause of death information from death records to investigate elder abuse and neglect deaths. Pennsylvania reportedly recorded a steep increase in such deaths, starting in 2019. Shapiro’s Department of Aging says such moves haven’t been found to be needed. Representative John Lawrence told Secretary of Aging Jason Kavulich that it was “unacceptable” that the department isn’t already gathering that information when someone dies.
