Legislation that would offer tax deductions to companies that contribute toward employees’ childcare expenses is moving forward in the state House. The Finance Committee has approved the measure on a vote of 20 to five. Supporters say the rising cost of childcare is preventing some parents from being able to work, so helping to cover the cost would help employers attract and keep top workers. Concern about the sustainability and availability of childcare was triggered last fall when many Pandemic-related funding measures ended.
