Trout Favorite Bait in Low Supply

As Pennsylvania’s trout season gets underway, regional shop owners say bait product is generally available. However, they report that butterworms, a pale moth larvae that’s said to be a trout favorite, are a little hard to come by, and prices are reflecting that. Producers say the worms are difficult to breed in captivity and availability is also down because of wildfires in their native Chile. At regional shops, butterworms are averaging about seven-dollars per dozen.
