State Medicaid Rolls Shed 500,000 People After COVID Rule Change

About half a million people have now been dropped from the state’s Medicaid rolls. State officials say the change has come about because so many people lost eligibility after their COVID coverage expired when the pandemic ended.  State data shows Pennsylvania’s Medicaid program went from a record high of three-point-seven-million people down to three-point-two million. Now, state and local officials say they are trying to limit the challenges people could face when reapplying for benefits, especially if they’ve never been through that process before.
