Penelec is asking for a rate increase. Reportedly an official with FirstEnergy said energy rates are not a done deal, but the company is looking to have the prices raise next January. The request first has to go the state’s public utility commission for approval. The commission could approve the whole request, part of it, or none of it. If the request is approved, the bill for residents would go up about 10 percent, between 16-20 dollars more a month. This would be the first time Penelec has raised its base rate since 2017.
