State Republican lawmakers have already nixed one proposal from Governor Shapiro concerning higher education funding. Now they say his second idea for changing how money for state-related universities is approved is also not passing their test. The Post-Gazette says the governor’s latest idea would let approval for universities’ funding streams only require a simple majority vote. Previously, they needed a two-thirds majority vote to pass into the Education Department budget. Governor Shapiro wants nearly 634-million-dollars in “grants to state-related institutions” put into this year’s education budget – that’s a five-percent increase.
