A 14 year old Clearfield County boy has been arrested and charged with murder after pointing a gun at a 12 year old girl and shooting her in the head. State Police in Clearfield are providing more details regarding Sunday’s shooting that occurred in Brady Township in Clearfield County. The teenager charged in the shooting has been identified as 14 year old Aaron Klingensmith, who reportedly asked the victim if she wanted to see his dad’s gun. Authorities say the boy admitted to picking up the handgun and pointing it at the girl. He then asked her if she thought the gun was loaded or unloaded. Police say when she responded, Klingensmith reportedly pulled the trigger, striking her in the head.  The victim, who has not been identified was declared dead on Wednesday at UPMC Children’s Hospital in Pittsburgh.  Reportedly the father of Klingensmith told authorities the handgun was kept in a case at the top of a gun cabinet and he was unaware his son knew the gun was there. The father also reported that he kept his loaded magazines separate from his weapons, and claimed his son would have had to “chamber a round” into the gun prior to shooting. The victim’s death has been ruled a homicide. Klingensmith has been charged as an adult facing third-degree murder among numerous other offenses. He is to be transferred from the Clearfield County Prison to the Central Counties Youth Detention Center in Bellefonte. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for May 12th.
