Pa., Lawmakers Look to Roll Back Some Utility Regulations

There is a plan at the Capitol in Harrisburg to let utilities in the state opt-out of some regulations from the Public Utility Commission. State Senator Patrick Stefano says the idea is to free utilities from what he calls onerous regulations. Stefano says he wants to find a way to save the people of Pennsylvania some money on their gas or electric bills. Consumer groups and environmentalists in Pennsylvania say Stefano’s proposal is too broad, and could give the utilities too much freedom. The proposal cleared the State Senate yesterday.
