
An Altoona man is behind bars today after he allegedly broke into a vacant home on 3rd Avenue. Arrested was 54 year old Leonard Bonter who was caught by police walking away from the home with two shopping carts worth of items. The shopping cart contained books, pans, a vase and numerous other items. Bonter told police he had permission of the owner to enter the home, and collect books and other items. Police were able to contact the owner who was in Florida and said he had not given anybody but his brother permission to enter the home. Bonter has been charged with two felony counts of burglary, criminal trespass and use/possession of drug paraphernalia. Unable to post bail he has been placed in the Blair County Prison. He faces a preliminary hearing on May 15th.
