Backyard Beats Listing 5/10/24: Lord Bishop Comes to Town, Blossoms on the Burg and More!

Here is a listing of area live music and online music happenings for the weekend and week of Friday, May 10 through Thursday, May 16.

Although the Mother’s Day weekend forecast is for rain and gray skies, live music is still happening, with a few noteworthy events happening both indoors and outdoors.

Traveling worldwide, Lord Bishop will be passing through Altoona on Friday night to help christen a new arts and performance space, Railroad City Cultural Center, located along 12th Avenue in the former Gables building. Originally from New York but now calling Dresden, Germany his home base, Lord Bishop and his trio will bring their brand of ’70s influenced hard rock, funk, blues, jazz, reggae and punk – a blend they have dubbed ‘Hendrixian Motör Funk.’ Local indie folk/rock artists Kevo Can’t Dance will open the show, which gets under way at 7 p.m.

Downtown Hollidaysburg will host “Blossoms in the Burg’ on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the corner of Allegheny and Montgomery Streets. Flowers will obviously be the focus here, and visitors can browse the floral displays and vendors, build their own bouquets, and enjoy acoustic sounds from popular Johnstown-based duo The Evergreens. Admission is free.

And if your mother is a fan of live music, there are a few Mother’s Day-themed live music events happening through the weekend as well.

Don’t let the rain keep you indoors…Browse the listing below, break out an umbrella, and SUPPORT LIVE MUSIC!
