Officials report that Norfolk Southern has reached a settlement agreement with the federal government in connection with last year’s train derailment in East Palestine, Ohio. Thirty-eight cars, some carrying hazardous materials, went off the tracks in the accident with some catching fire and some spilling some of their contents. The deal announced yesterday will see Norfolk Southern paying over 310-million dollars to settle matters in relation to the EPA and the federal Department of Justice. Most of that money will go towards covering money already spent on clean-up of the accident and clean-up costs still to come.
