Farmers Lobby for Lab in Western PA

Farmers and others involved in the ag-industry are lobbying for a state veterinary lab to be established in western Pennsylvania. The state currently has three labs, one of which is located at Penn State. The labs provide quick testing services during an outbreak of potentially dangerous diseases such as avian flu. The state’s Secretary of Agriculture says western Pennsylvania farmers deserve better, and quicker access to such testing facilities.  Governor Shapiro is proposing a five million dollar allocation for an animal diagnostic lab in the western part of the Commonwealth.
