Penn Highlands Healthcare, and a number of its hospitals, have agreed to pay the United States over 7 hundred thousand dollars to resolve a lawsuit. The lawsuit alleged False Claims Act infringement thru submissions of claims to both Medicaid and Medicare. The department of Justice announced yesterday that Penn Highlands hospitals, including Dubois Medical Center, agreed to the payment. The violations reportedly occurred between 2009-2012, after a whistle blower brought the claims to the attention of authorities.
