Insect experts are predicting a high number of spotted lanternflies to emerge across Pennsylvania this year. Brian Walsh with the Penn State Extension says many of the areas that saw the invasive bug last year will likely see them again this summer. They are hatched now but they are difficult to see until they become mature and begin flying, likely starting late this month. Spotted lanternflies don’t pose a danger to people but they are considered a threat to some crops. State officials continue to ask residents to destroy them if they find them.
