State Agencies including PennDOT and the State Fire Commission are reminding everyone to exercise safety measures and common sense this 4th of July weekend. PennDOT is advocating for the use of sober drivers and alternative transportation to prevent impaired driving incidents. During the holiday, state and area police will be conducting DUI checkpoints and extra patrols will be out in force. This enforcement aims to deter impaired driving, which is also a concern on the state’s waterways, as indicated by 39 boating under the influence arrests last year. Fireworks safety is another critical issue. The State Fire Commissioner’s office is issuing guidelines to prevent injuries and fires, emphasizing sober handling of fireworks, and recommending protective measures like safety glasses, and having water resources ready in case of an emergency.
