Due to personnel shortages and other challenges, the Somerset and Friedens Volunteer Fire Companies have announced they are merging. Last week, members voted to create one merged organization which will be called the Somerset Regional Volunteer Fire Department. The merger will take effect on January 1, 2025. Despite the merger, both stations will remain in operation.
