A Centre County man was sentenced up to six years for the fatal stabbing of his American Bulldog named Axel. Robert Lewis of Rebersburg was taken into custody last November after authorities say he stabbed the dog multiple times on a public street in Miles Township. First responders also witnessed Lewis “running wildly” with a knife before he suffered a medical emergency. While en route to the hospital he allegedly attacked EMT’s. Police say Lewis was high on mushrooms at the time of the stabbing. Yesterday in court, Lewis was sentenced to serve 3-6 years in state prison. He reportedly told the judge he stabbed the dog out of self-defense, however witnesses testified the dog did not appear violent.
