A pregnant Bellefonte woman and her unborn child were killed on Friday in a four-vehicle crash that occurred on I-99 in Benner Township, Centre County. She’s been identified as 29-year old Katharyn Derhammer, who was 33-weeks pregnant. Reportedly, she was stopped in the right lane of I-99 due to traffic, when her vehicle was rear-ended by a GMC Yukon that reportedly was traveling at a high rate of speed. This caused Derhammer’s car to rear-end another vehicle. A fourth driver swerved into the left lane to avoid the crash but was also hit by the Yukon. Police say Derhammer was flown to Geisinger Danville, where she and her unborn child died. An investigation is underway.
