The U.S. Secret Service is taking responsibility for alleged failures leading to July’s assassination attempt in Butler, Pa., that came within millimeters of ending the life of former President Donald Trump. In a briefing held last week in the nation’s capital, Acting Director Ronald Rowe described communication “deficiencies” between law enforcement personnel and an “over-reliance” on mobile devices that enabled the would-be assassin to fire multiple rounds at Trump before counter snipers took him out of play. In the briefing, Rowe used the term “complacency” to describe the failure of some agents to voice legitimate concerns prior to the July 13th rally.
