Arbitration Board Ruling States Sale Of U.S. Steel Can Move Forward

us-steel-2

Mediators say the sale of U.S. Steel can move forward despite grievances filed by the United Steelworkers union.  A board of arbitration set up to handle disputes between the corporation and the union has ruled that U.S. Steel would be meeting the successorship clause included in their labor agreement through the sale to Japan’s Nippon Steel.  The arbitrators say Nippon Steel has showed they are willing to, and have the financial ability to, honor the labor commitments that are included in the existing contract.  A sale is still far from a done deal, however, as the Biden administration has indicated that the president may block it on national security grounds.
